Fugazi é uma banda de Washington, DC formada em 1987, e desde então lançaram sete álbuns e fizeram turnês pelo mundo todo, incluindo Estados Unidos, Europa, Austrália, América do Sul, Japão e outros. A banda é gerida e lança todo o seu material através da Dischord Records. A banda tem como principais membros Ian MacKaye (Guitarra e vocal), Guy Picciotto (Guitarra e Vocal), Joe Lally (Baixo) e Brendan Canty (Bateria). Antes do Fugazi, Ian MacKaye foi integrante das bandas Teen Idles, Minor Threat e Embrace, que faziam um som na linha Hardcore/Punk.
Embora perceba-se claramente influencia do hardcore punk devido às antigas bandas dos integrantes, há sem dúvida mais do que isso no estilo de Fugazi, suas músicas beiravam o experimentalismo, pós-punk e tudo mais o que eles podiam incorporar ao som da banda.
Fugazi se tornou um ícone da cultura underground e influenciou diversas bandas durante os anos 90/2000. Uma curiosidade, a banda ficou conhecida por manter uma política de preços acessíveis do seu trabalho tanto do material discográfico como do preço dos ingressos de seus shows, algo entre $5 a $7 dólares para os ingressos e dos discos em $10 dólares.
